Well, Jack's ear tube surgery was cancelled for the 22nd. Jack was sick. Actually, he's still in the recovery phase. Jack came down with some sort of nasty stomach virus Sunday morning. He couldn't keep down any food. The entire week prior to Sunday wasn't that great to begin with.We had a mix of vomit, excess mucous, total irritability, and crying with the words, "boo boo." It worked out that I had to cancel the surgery. I was okay with cancelling the surgery because I was having trouble with my comfort level between the physician and the hospital staff itself. I still don't know if it was because I am used to the other hospital for surgical care, or if it was something else. Either way, the surgery was cancelled and wasn't rescheduled because the physician is leaving. I am okay with that as well. I want to get a second opinion on ear tubes. Jack's pediatrician made it sound like he might not have actually had all of those ear infections. She said that some physicians might look in Jack's ears and see that they are red and diagnose an infection. The pediatrician was on maternity leave during 2 of the 3 infections. Supposedly, Jack's ear canals are almost always red due the the way they are formed.
Other than a lot of nasty illness that made its way through the entire house, Jack has progressed again!
Jack can now count to 6, or 8. Well, he isn't truly rote counting, but he is saying the numbers in order. He used to only count to 3. "Woo-one, doo, too-wee." Now he says, "Woo-one, doo, too-wee, dore, dive, shix (eight)." So cute! He will touch objects and say the numbers. I think he has a general idea of what counting is. Applying that knowledge is another task. He'll get there. He also has shape knowledge, when not prompted, of course!
Jack is also mimicking more and more words. Last night he applied two words I have never heard him say! "drum" and then "stick". I was surprised! He knew exactly what he wanted and asked for them correctly! Boy was he happy when I gave him both objects!
Remember that gigantic standing frame? Jack only used it for a couple of months and then started preschool. Once preschool started, he was in it 4 of the 5 days at school but he progressed so well with the school's walker, he started only using the stander 1 or 2 of the 5 days at school. Well, school is over for the summer. We decided to donate the standing frame to the preschool. Insurance covered it and it isn't right to sell it. The school was very happy to receive it! We are borrowing the school's walker until once comes for Jack. It was sent for prior-approval via insurance in February/March. I am thinking that maybe, just maybe, it will be approved and then ordered in June? Maybe? Jack's Physical Therapist jokingly stated that by the time the walker comes, with how stubborn Jack is, he won't need it because he'll be walking on his own! I partially agree with that! He was able to stand from kneeling one day at school because he was so completely angry with his therapist!
